Pampus
The Muizenfort belongs to the Defense Line of Amsterdam and was built at the end of the nineteenth century. A wonderful place to take a look around and learn more about the Dutch fortress history. From the fort you can walk straight into the polder. You can also experience the characteristic Dutch cultural history here. You look out over vast meadows intersected by ditches. From the dike you look out over the IJmeer. In the distance is the fortress island of Pampus.
Beautiful Muiden
You walk along the canal that has been constructed around Het Muiderslot. A little later you can visit the famous thirteenth-century moated castle itself, it has been converted into a museum and is considered one of the most beautiful Dutch castles. From the castle you walk further, across the Herengracht. Just like on its namesake in Amsterdam, you can enjoy a beautiful picture here: you see pleasure boats bobbing on the Vecht, on the left are many beautiful old buildings.
