Krimpenerwaard, South Holland, The Netherlands
Hiking route: 927674
Provided by: Groots Genieten
The Krimpenerwaard is a beautiful, wide area, ideal for exploring on foot. Along the way you will not only enjoy the natural beauty, but also the historic buildings.
Den Arend
This is also where your first sight is located: Den Arend, a beautiful flour mill from 1869. In the countryside you walk along grassy meadows that are intersected by many straight ditches. There are some beautiful old farms along the road. You will also see the Zuidbroekse Molen: an American wind engine from 1922 that drains the area.
Schuurkerk
After a while, the vast landscape makes way for the Loetbos. Native trees such as willows, alders and poplars grow there: species that feel at home in this low peat area. In Berkenwoude you can take a look at the old barn church that stands next to the Reformed Church. Just after junction 49 you walk along an unpaved path along the vliet. Make sure you wear waterproof shoes so that you can enjoy a breath of fresh air in this quiet area.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
