Wide views around Volendam

Volendam is a nice base for a day of cycling. There is plenty to do in the famous town, you can visit the Eel Sound Museum, among other things. You can enjoy the wide landscape in the area.

Marker lake
From Paviljoen Smit-Bokkum you are the first to drive to the cozy and characteristic harbor of Volendam. You then drive past the Fort at Edam, one of the fortresses from the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Cycling along the dike you look out over the wide and bird-rich Polder Zeevang, you regularly see a beautiful old farm. Just before Warder you can walk up the dike for a panorama over the Markermeer and over Warder itself.

Gouwzee
In Beets you pass the fifteenth-century village church with its remarkably low tower. Via Kwadijk you drive to Purmerend, after which you cycle a bit through the Purmerbos: an exception in this vast polder land. Katwoude is a nice place to cycle through at your leisure, you will see some beautiful buildings. From the dike you then have a beautiful view over the Gouwzee. Get a breath of fresh air, while you see the island of Marken on the horizon.
