Description

At the beginning of this century, a large part of the Polder Noordwaard was depoldered by Rijkswaterstaat as part of the Room for the River plan. With this walk you can take a good look at the beautiful new nature that has arisen as a result.

Fort Steurgat
At Brasserie De Selevia Hoeve you can enjoy a coffee with something delicious before you hit the road. First you walk on a car-free road along the fields and fields that still lie here on the eastern edge of the polder. Get a breath of fresh air and clear your head, an ideal start to your trip. After a while you pass Fort Steurgat, a fortress from 1881.

New Merwede
From the Bandijk you have a beautiful view over the Noordwaard. You see the Nieuwe Merwede, on the left is an unspoilt and water-rich landscape of grasslands and reed beds. Many birds live here, take your binoculars to spot them. As you walk through the middle of the polder, you experience an unprecedented silence by Dutch standards. What a beautiful area! Back at Brasserie De Selevia Hoeve you can order something delicious from the menu.
