From Hoek van Holland you can take a varied walk. You walk through a city park, through the dunes and along the sea. There is plenty to see and experience along the way.
Nieuwlandsepark
You walk a bit along the harbor and the Nieuwe Waterweg. You see a lot of ships here. You will also pass the Coastal Lighting Museum, which is housed in the old lighthouse. Further on you walk through the wooded Nieuwlandsepark, a beautiful piece of urban nature.
Atlantic wall
Further on, the landscape slowly changes into dunes with thickets. And suddenly you are on the beach. Enjoy the sound of the surf as you walk along the water. Cooling down is not far away on hot days: dip your bare feet in the refreshing North Sea. That's relaxing. You walk across the pier along the Nieuwe Waterweg. You pass the Atlantic Wall Museum here, well worth a visit.
Kindertransport Monument
After Kristallnacht in November 1938, many Jewish children were bullied and deported. The English got it through negotiations from the Nazis that more than 10,000 Jewish children were allowed to come to England as refugees. These so-called Kindertransporten took place from different places. The first from Berlin, later transports from Vienna, Prague and Gdansk followed. The children were transported by train to Hoek van Holland, after which they sailed to Harwich by boat. Visual artist Frank Meisler experienced one of these transports as a child. As a memory he has made some works of art, one of which is in Hoek van Holland.
