Weerribben-Wieden National Park is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. Cultural history is also not lacking on this route, because you pass through Giethoorn, among other things.
Venice of the North
From the Veneweg, which has been here since 1775, you have beautiful views over the water of the Beulakerwijde and Belterwijde. The hamlet of Ronduite is located on a peninsula in the middle of the two banks. The name refers to the redoubt (military fortification) that was once located here. You cycle through a number of peat villages, you also drive through Giethoorn, which is nicknamed the Venice of the North.
Kalenberger reed
The Weerribben was mainly created by peat extraction. It is wonderfully quiet in this unspoilt nature reserve. On the Hoogeweg you will see a former dyer's house and some old monumental farms. You also drive through Kalenberg, a sailing village that was only accessible by boat until the late 1950s. The thin reeds that grow along the banks of the Kalenbergergracht are often used as coverings on mills and farms.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
