In Drenthe you can once again indulge in nature. This route takes you through the Holtingerveld and the Drents-Friese Wold.
Holtingerveld
First you drive through the Holtingerveld. You will find dry heath and oak birch forests. From the heath you have a beautiful view of the nearby Havelterberg, a small hill on which two dolmens (D53 and D54) are located. The heath is grazed by a flock of Drenthe Heath sheep, the oldest breed in Western Europe.
Drents-Friese Wold
You then drive through Frederiksoord and Wilhelminaoord: two villages that arose from mining colonies that were founded around 1820 by the Society of Benevolence. Drents-Friese Wold National Park is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. No wonder it is wonderfully quiet here! Here you can enjoy many kilometers of varied forests, heathlands, grassy meadows and streams. On the edge of Diever you will pass De Vlijt, a beautiful flour mill from 1882.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
