The heart of the Green Forest

De Mortelen is the heart of the Groene Woud, the largest landscape reserve in Brabant. Put on your walking shoes to explore this beautiful area. You also walk a bit through the Velder Estate.

De Mortelen
You can walk straight into the Mortelen here. The landscape in this nature reserve has hardly been influenced by the large land consolidation schemes, so you get a glimpse of the old Brabant farming landscape. You walk through a backdrop of poplar groves, coniferous forests and grasslands and arable lands. A beautiful environment where you will have no trouble relaxing.

Orchids
From junction 69 you walk a bit through the woods of Velder, a private estate whose history dates back to the fourteenth century. A little later you can enjoy the natural beauty of De Mortelen again. In spring you will see many shades of yellow thanks to the flowering celandine, marigold and slender primrose. The meadows are then colored lilac by the Pentecost flower. You can also admire many orchids here. In the hamlets of Snepseind you can still see some monumental thatched, long-facade farms.
