Description

The yellow glow of the marsh marigolds and a stream valley filled with purple orchids, you can't miss them on this walking route along the Deurzerdiep in the spring. From Assen you can walk straight into the semi-open landscape of Drenthe. Discover the meandering streams, wet hay meadows and the special flower species in bloom.

Highlights
  • From the bridge you look out over the Deurzerdiep and the meadow damselflies that dance above the water.
  • In early spring, the marsh marigold turns Horstmaat yellow and you can see the purple-colored orchids in bloom along the stream valley from the hiking trail.
  • The small oak grove is a remnant of the old embankment plantations of the Uitkamp.
Dogs are welcome if kept on a lead. Route is not suitable for disabled people and mainly runs on sand and grass paths that can be wet. Wearing waterproof hiking boots is recommended.
