Walking in Ter Apel

Ancient forests

The starting point of this route is at a parking lot on the outskirts of Ter Apel. Park your car here and then hit the road. You walk along the water of the river Ruiten Aa, through the woods and along the edge of open fields that offer you a wide view. The Leidijk used to hold the water in this area, making it inaccessible to the enemy. Fortunately, you can now walk here without any problems on the winding path through the Meebos and Roelagerbos.

Varied flora and fauna

Along the path you will find thick old oaks and beeches, but also the special stone bramble. Above your head you can discover all kinds of woodpecker species and bats. You will also find the herb Solomon's seal in the old forests. The river Ruiten Aa has leeward spots and fast currents. That attracts all kinds of animals. You will find all kinds of animal and plant species in this area. Come and discover it for yourself!

Most of this route is on unpaved paths. You can take your dog on this route, provided it is kept on a leash.
