Description
Friesland is more than just a province with vast lakes and views. This route around Oldeberkoop introduces you to the beautiful Frisian forests.
Boschoord estate
The route starts at Landgoed Boschoord. This estate is managed by the Society of Benevolence. This organization was founded in 1818 to give poor city dwellers the chance to escape their grinding poverty through mining colonies. However, the soil around Boschoord turned out to be barren, so it was decided to plant a forest there. Just above Noordwolde you drive through the scenic landscape of the Linde valley and the Meenthebos.
Oldeber sale
You enter Oldeberkoop through the Koepelbos. Because of the well-preserved old buildings, this town enjoys a protected village view. Here you can see, among other things, the beautiful Boniface Church from the twelfth century. Further on you drive along the leafy banks of the Tjonger and through the unspoilt Tjonger valley.
