Friesland is more than just the province with its vast lakes and panoramic views. This route around Oldeberkoop introduces you to the beautiful Frisian forests.

Boschoord Estate
The route starts at the Boschoord Estate. This estate is managed by the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid (Society of Benevolence). This organization was founded in 1818 to give poor city dwellers the opportunity to escape their abject poverty through reclamation colonies. However, the land around Boschoord proved infertile, so it was decided to plant a forest. Just above Noordwolde, you cycle through the bocage landscape of the Lindevallei and the Meenthebos.

Oldeberkoop
You enter Oldeberkoop through the Koepelbos forest. Because of its well-preserved old buildings, this village is a protected village. Here you'll see, among other things, the magnificent Bonifatius Church from the twelfth century. Further on, you'll cycle along the leafy banks of the Tjonger river and through the pristine Tjonger valley.
