Description
This route lets you experience the versatility of cycling pearl Friesland. Vast landscapes alternate with the small-scale scenic landscape of the Frisian Forests.
Lauswolt estate
In Hemrik you will pass the beautiful White Church from 1739, which also has a Frisian bell tower. Just outside Beetsterzwaag you drive through the woods of Landgoed Lauswolt. The country house dates from the nineteenth century.
Tjongervallei
You cycle through picturesque villages such as Olterterp and Oerterp. Further on you drive through De Slotplaats, a large and wooded estate. In Bakkeveen you pass the charming village church and some old farms. It is then nice and quiet to travel for miles in the wide polders. In Donkerbroek you cross the Opsterlandse Compagnonsvaart, a canal dating from 1630. Finally, you drive along the leafy banks of the Tjonger and through the unspoilt Tjonger valley.
