Walking through the Tsjonger valley

In the Tjongervallei you walk through an unspoilt landscape. In between you walk through the picturesque hamlet of Jubbega-Schurega.

The route starts at the edge of the Tjonger valley. From here you walk on low-traffic roads along the meadows. Get a breath of fresh air while you walk your legs loose. You regularly see a beautiful old building. At junction 55, take a short walk along Kerklaan to admire the beautiful old village church from 1715.

Tjonger
After a while you walk along the leafy banks of the Tjonger. This river forms the language border between Frisian and Low Saxon, which is spoken south of the Kuunder (as the Tjonger is called in Low Saxon). Further on you walk through the Tjongervallei. In the old peat landscape you regularly see pieces of uncultivated land, such as heaths. Together with the small wooded areas, watercourses and wooded banks and canals, they give the area an unprecedented charm.
