Walking through the Frisian peat area

From the hamlet of Jubbega-Schurega you can take a beautiful walk through the Frisian countryside. You enjoy the peace, space and natural beauty.

Peat extraction
As you walk through the hamlet, you will see some beautiful characteristic homes. A little later you walk along a car-free road along the meadows that were created in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries after the peat excavations. Further on you come through a small forest plot. On hot days you can cool off here in the shade.

Schoterlandse Compagnonvaart
You walk a bit along the leafy bank of the Schoterlandse Compagnonsvaart, which was dug for the transport of peat. You cross a beautiful unpaved path to the next tree-lined road: the Oude Singel. Further on you walk through a series of forests, canals and meadows. What peace you experience here! The last part of the route you walk through Jubbega-Schurega, where you will see some special buildings, such as the monumental village school.
