Walking through the Frisian peat area

From the hamlet of Jubbega-Schurega you can take a nice walk through the Frisian countryside. You enjoy the peace, space and natural beauty.

Peat reclamation
As you walk through the hamlet, you will see some beautiful characteristic homes. A little later you walk on a car-free road along the meadows that were created in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries after the peat excavations. Further on you will pass through a small wooded area. On hot days you can cool down here in the shade.

Scottish Compagnonsvaart
You walk a bit along the leafy banks of the Schoterlandse Compagnonsvaart, which was dug for the transport of peat. You continue on a beautiful unpaved path to the next tree-lined road: the Oude Singel. Further on you walk through a succession of woods, canals and meadows. What peace you experience here! You walk the last part of the route through Jubbega-Schurega, where you will see some special buildings, such as the monumental village school.
