Walking between Gieten and Gasselte

You can easily walk through the countryside between Gieten and Gasselte. You walk a bit on a former railway through a particularly beautiful environment!

Brummelpad
From Restaurant De Wiemel you quickly pick up the Brummelpad. This path over the Hondsrug follows the route of the former railway connection between Gasselternijveen and Assen. This line was built by the Noordoosterlocaalspoorweg Maatschappij and used between 1905 and 1972. It is a wonderful walk on the leafy path. Sometimes it seems as if you are walking on a sunken road in Limburg. A nice detail is the old bridge that the train once drove under.

Wide polder
From the Brummelpad you descend through a small-scale forest towards a more open area. You walk along the meadows on low-traffic roads. Get a breath of fresh air while enjoying the view of the beautiful farms. It is wonderfully quiet here, ideal for completely unwinding. At the Hunzelaan you pick up the rail route from earlier on the route. Time for a terrace at Restaurant De Wiemel.
