Description
Put on your sturdy shoes for a walk through the Frisian countryside. You visit Akkrum and Jirnsum, in between you walk along the meadows and the river De Boorne.
Princess Margaret Canal
Walking on a leafy path you can enjoy the peace and space. You cross the Princess Margriet Canal, which dates from 1951. This canal is the Frisian part of the shipping canal from Lemmer to Groningen. From the bridge you have a beautiful view over the flat land. In Jirnsum you pass some beautiful buildings, such as the Mauritiuskerk from 1877.
Crooked Knilles
After walking along the meadows for a while, you will walk along the banks of the Princess Margriet Canal. Get a breath of fresh air and enjoy the rippling water and boats. After a short cut you follow the course of the Boorne, a river that is also called Kromme Knilles in this place. A beautiful area, in which you see some characteristic farms. Finally, you walk through Akkrum, a beautiful and cozy village.
