Description
Natural beauty and history go hand in hand around the Elshoutse Wielen. A beautiful area to explore on foot. You also walk through the village of Elshout and along the Bergsche Maas.
Meuse bank
You walk to the hamlet of Doeveren, then you walk along the banks of the Bergsche Maas. From the dike you have a beautiful view over the rippling water and the floodplains. Get some fresh air, while you can have a nice chat with your fellow walker(s).
Elshoutse Zeedijk
Between junction 78 and 88 you walk along the Hooibroeken, a humid nature reserve. Further on, you pass through Elshout, a pretty village where you can admire some old farms and the St. John Evangelist Church from 1878. At junction 31 you walk onto the Elshoutse Zeedijk, which dates back to the Middle Ages. With its wheels and locks, this winding dyke is part of the Southern Waterline. What a beautiful path!
