Description
Around the Elshoutse Wielen, natural beauty and history go hand in hand. A beautiful area to explore on foot. You also walk through the village of Elshout and along the Bergsche Maas.
Maas bank
You walk to the hamlet of Doeveren, then walk along the banks of the Bergsche Maas. From the dike you have a beautiful view of the rippling water and the floodplains. Get some fresh air while you can have a nice chat with your fellow hiker(s).
Elshoutse Zeedijk
Between junctions 78 and 88 you walk past the Hooibroeken, a damp nature reserve. Further on you pass through Elshout, a beautiful village where you can admire some old farms and the St. John Evangelist Church from 1878. At junction 31 you walk onto the Elshoutse Zeedijk, which dates back to the Middle Ages. With its wheels and locks, this winding dike is part of the Southern Waterline. What a beautiful path!
