Walking through Sittard and along the Roode Beek

From Sittard you can walk in no time to the valley of the Roode Beek, a nature reserve in Germany. You can discover plenty of cultural history in the Sittardse Kloosterkwartier.

Red Brook
You cross the border with Germany, after which you walk through the village of Wehr. You then walk through the wooded valley of the Roode Beek, called Rodebach in Germany. What a silence!

Schwienswei
Further on you walk through Schwienswei, a Dutch nature reserve around the point where the Geleenbeek and Roode Beek meet. You walk here through a mosaic of deciduous forest, fields and meadows. You walk back through the De Baandert district to the restored Kloosterkwartier. You walk across the beautiful Oude Markt, one of the oldest streets in Sittard. You can see some beautiful monuments here, such as the former Ursuline boarding school that now houses Hotel Merici.
