Description

Put on your sturdy shoes to discover the old town of Sint Maartensdijk. In the outlying area you walk through nature reserve De Pluimpot and along the banks of the Oosterschelde.

Plum pot

The Pluimpot is the last remnant of the channel that cut the island of Tholen in two until 1556. After the flood disaster, this channel was classified as unsafe and closed in 1957. The dammed estuary now serves as a refuge and breeding area for coastal birds. Further on you can get a breath of fresh air, while looking out over the water of the Oosterschelde. You walk back to beautiful Sint Maartensdijk through the wide polder and past the fruit orchards.
