The blue network line between Kampen and Enschede is a train connection straight through Overijssel. This multi-day walking route of almost 220 kilometers passes through major cities such as Zwolle, Almelo and Hengelo, and you will also pass historic villages. And don't forget: you walk through the beautiful and versatile nature that Overijssel has to offer! This walking route is divided into nine sub-routes. Choose one or more stages or follow the entire route and turn it into a walking holiday.

Hanseatic city of Zwolle
The route starts on the edge of Kampen. You can then enjoy a lovely walk along the banks of the IJssel. Get some fresh air and leave the everyday routine behind! Enjoy a break at Theehuis Zalkerveer before walking to the historic heart of Zwolle. In Salland you can see some old manor houses. Museum De Fundatie is located in Het Nijenhuis Castle. After Raalte you walk through the rolling Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park.

Historic Almelo
Two beautiful nature reserves also await you further afield: the vastness of the Wierdense Veld and the small-scale landscape in the Reggedal. What they both have in common: peace and quiet! In between you are welcome for a refreshing pit stop on the cozy terrace of Koffieschenkerij De Piet. In Almelo you will see some beautiful monumental buildings, before you walk through the wooded Twickel Estate to Hengelo. You pass through Tuindorp't Lansink, a picturesque old neighborhood. The last kilometers take you through Enschede.

De Fundatie/Kasteel Het Nijenhuis

Het Nijenhuis Castle is one of the best preserved manors in Overijssel. The castle is surrounded by a beautiful landscape between the villages of Heino and Wijhe. The history of the castle dates back to the late Middle Ages. The first mention dates from 1382. The castle was inhabited by different noble families until it was taken over by the provincial government of Overijssel. Then the castle was restored and part of the castle was converted into a museum, with the collection of collector Dirk Hannema as the starting point. In 2003 the castle was rebuilt and renovated again. The house, which was previously only open to visitors by appointment, has been completely refurbished and has been fully accessible to the public since 2004. Part of Hannema's extensive collection can be viewed in the castle. Around the castle is a sculpture garden with about 80 sculptures. Stroll through the beautiful ornamental garden and enjoy the most beautiful images in the meantime. An impressive combination of nature and culture.
