This walk takes you from Hengelo station to Enschede station. During this walk of more than 23 kilometers you get to know these two cities better, but also the countryside through which you walk.
From Hengelo to Enschede
The starting point of this Blauwnet walk is Hengelo train station, the perfect starting point for a walk through Overijssel. The route heads east of the city, past the Carmelite Monastery. Today it is used as a school building. Then you pass the Lonnerkermeer. Here you will find a special combination of lakes, streams, fens, forest and heathland with a rich variety of plants and animals.
Enschede Knowledge Park
After a few hours of walking in the wonderful nature, it is time to return to the city of Enschede. You enter the city from the northwest and walk towards Kennispark train station. The Grolsch Veste of football club FC Twente is opposite. You then walk another 5 kilometers to the city center of Enschede, where Enschede train station is the end point of this route. So get on the train and travel easily to Hengelo with one of the Blauwnet trains to enjoy a carefree day outside from there.
Enschede
According to the most common explanation, the name Enschede goes back to'An die Schede\\\', which probably referred to a swampy border area. Enschede arose in the early Middle Ages as an agricultural settlement. The textile industry developed in the eighteenth century and Enschede grew into the most important center of textile production in the Netherlands.
