Train walking Raalte-Nijverdal: over the Sallandse Heuvelrug

During this brisk walk of over 37 kilometers from Raalte station to Nijverdal station you will discover the beautiful landscape of the Salland region. Experience the tranquility of the green heart of Salland and let yourself be carried away along the Sallandse Heuvelrug.

First coffee
The starting point of this walking route is Raalte station. This village is located in the heart of Salland. Before you start the route you can drink a nice cup of coffee at Hotel Restaurant De Zwaan, so that you can start the walk in good spirits. Mariënberg is the next place you visit during this walk, and then you continue to De Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park.

Sallandse Heuvelrug
The Sallandse Heuvelrug is home to one of the largest contiguous areas of dry heathland in Western Europe. Furthermore, the area also shows a wide variety of forests. The flora and fauna in the area is very varied, in short: it is the perfect environment for walking. In the park you have beautiful views from the hilltops over the forests, heathlands and the wider Salland area. After you have walked many kilometers over the Sallandse Heuvelrug, it is time to continue to Nijverdal, where Nijverdal train station is the end of the walking route.

End point: Nijverdal
Nijverdal is located at the foot of the Sallandse Heuvelrug. For those seeking peace and quiet, this is a very suitable area for walking and cycling via the marked walking and cycling routes. But a visit to the Holten Canadian War Cemetery, one of the largest military cemeteries in the Netherlands, is also definitely worthwhile.
