From Zwolle to Wijhe

Today you can still see traces of this rich history in Zwolle: decorated facades, the defensive wall, the Sassenpoort, the Peperbus and the star-shaped city canal. This blue net walk starts in Hanzestad Zwolle at the train station. Via the Engels Werk you walk in the direction of the south on the Schellerdijk out of the city. Along the Schellerwade you walk through Oldeneel, Schelle, Harculo and Herxen to Wijhe.

Estates and historic buildings
During the walk you will pass Landhuis de Colckhof. The mansion itself is not accessible, but walking on the paths of the estate is allowed. Experience the romance of the English gardens. Almost 60 bird species breed on the Colckhof, so bird watchers can indulge themselves. You will also pass Kasteel't Rozendael in Raalte and Het Nijenhuis. This is a beautifully preserved manor with a beautiful art collection, regularly changing exhibitions and a beautiful sculpture garden. After having seen these beautiful sights, you continue to the end point of this route: Heino train station.

Nearly sixty bird species breed at the Colckhof, so bird watchers can indulge themselves here. The estate dates back to 1300 and the accompanying country house was built in 1840. The country house is privately owned. The estate was laid out in the English landscape style in the first half of the nineteenth century. The landscape consists of patches of grassland, forest, fields and a vegetable garden. In the spring, lilies of the valley, wild hyacinths, daffodils and periwinkle trees bloom here, and in the autumn the forest has beautiful autumn colors. The estate has recently become even more beautiful, because it has just had a makeover. Ponds, canals and ditches have been cleaned, the groundwater level has been raised and the water quality has been restored.
