This walking route takes you along the Bergsche Maas, over the Heusdens fortress and through the De Hooibroeken nature reserve. A tour full of variety and sights.
Curve Nolkering
On the dike you can enjoy beautiful views of the river and the grasslands. This part of the Meuse was dug by human hands at the end of the nineteenth century. This artificial branching reduced the amount of water that the Merwede had to process. Just before Heusden you can see the Kromme Nolkering in the distance, a large lock in the Heusdens Canal.
Hay pants
The footpath takes you over the fortifications of Heusden, a picturesque fortified town. The fortifications were subjected to a major restoration in 1978. From the wall you have a beautiful view of, among other things, the remains of the medieval Heusden Castle and the canals. Further on you walk through Oudheusden, a village that once lay on the Maas. Finally, you walk through De Hooibroeken, an unspoilt nature reserve of grasslands and moist forests.
