Description
This route takes you through the forests and farmland of the Frisian Wouden. Along the way you walk through the forest near Spokedam and you can also enjoy beautiful vistas and views over the vast Frisian landscape.
The history of Noordwolde
The village of Noordwolde is the starting point of this walk. This is approximately the place where the provinces of Friesland, Drenthe and Overijssel meet at the three-province point. This place is also known for the rattan industry that emerged here in 1825. It started with weaving baskets and eventually someone came up with the idea of weaving wicker chairs in the same way. At the end of the 19th century, as many as 200,000 of these chairs were made here per year. Learn more about this at the National Braid Museum. Then it is time to set off through the woods and along the fields around Noordwolde.
Straight through the Spokebos
Along the way you will pass the Spokeplas. This recreational lake is hidden in the lush Spokebos. Are you going out on a hot summer day? Then take off your shoes and let your feet cool in the water of this lake.
