Description
This route takes you through the woods and farmland of the Friese Wouden. You walk along the way through the woods near Spokedam and you can also enjoy beautiful vistas and views over the vast Frisian landscape.
The history of Northwold
The village of Noordwolde is the starting point of this walk. This is approximately the place where the provinces of Friesland, Drenthe and Overijssel come together in the three-province point. This place is also known for the rattan industry that originated here in 1825. It started with weaving baskets and eventually someone came up with the idea of weaving wicker chairs in the same way. At the end of the 19th century, no less than 200,000 of these chairs were made here every year. Learn more about this at the National Braid Museum. Then it's time to set off through the woods and along the fields around Noordwolde.
Straight through the Spokebos
You will pass the Spokeplas along the way. This recreational lake is hidden in the lush Spokebos. Are you going out on a hot summer day? Then take off your shoes and let your feet cool off in the water of this pool.
