Description
This route of over 22 kilometers takes you from Hengelo to Oldenzaal. Be surprised by these two beautiful cities and the beautiful rural areas of these cities.
Atmospheric nature
The starting point for this Blauwnet walk is Hengelo train station. From here you walk via Hengelo Oost station to the north of the city. As soon as you leave the city, you enter an oasis of peace, nature and charming towns. Do you feel like taking a break yet? After 9 kilometers you can drink coffee or have lunch at Landgoed Kaamps. Also take a look at the estate shop and the experience boulevard. Here you can see how cows are milked and the milk is made into cheese. Via Deurningen you walk through the countryside towards Oldenzaal.
The Hulsbeek and Oldenzaal
During this walk you will also pass Het Hulsbeek, a recreational area west of Oldenzaal. The area consists of a swimming, surfing and fishing pond and a skateboard track. There is also plenty of forest and heathland. You walk around the various ponds. After this you walk on to Oldenzaal. In the center of Oldenzaal you will find the St. Plechelmus Basilica, one of the 23 basilicas in the Netherlands. On the corner of the Groote Markt in Oldenzaal you will find Grand Café Markant, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee. The end point of this route is Oldenzaal station.
Centuries-old Oldenzaal
Oldenzaal was originally a Hanseatic city. A city walk is highly recommended to discover the medieval street pattern. Oldenzaal is the perfect place for a day out!
