From Medemblik to Wieringen

Medemblik is a beautiful historic town on the IJsselmeer. An ideal starting point for a beautiful route that leads you over the former island of Wieringen.

Historic Medemblik
Where other cities in the area grew, Medemblik remained a bit stagnant for a long time. That is precisely why the town still exudes an authentic Dutch atmosphere. There is no shortage of characteristic Dutch facades, because Medemblik is rich in buildings from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Along the dike you cycle through the wide polders. Get some fresh air and enjoy the peace. After a while you drive through the Dijkgatbos and the adjacent Robbenoordbos. Beautiful!

Afsluitdijk
Den Oever is the place where the Afsluitdijk comes ashore in North Holland. Here you will find, among other things, the former lighthouse from 1884. At Restaurant Basalt you can regain your strength with a delicious meal before you drive to Museum Jan Lont. Here you can experience the Wieringer farmer's and fisherman's life from before Wieringen was linked to North Holland. You drive through Hippolytushoef and along the Amstelmeer, after which you drive back to Medemblik via Middenmeer.
