From Leeuwarden you can drive straight through the vast Frisian countryside. Here you will find peace, space and beautiful old villages. You also cycle through the Alde Feanen National Park.
Polder mill
The route starts at the parking lot in Aldlân-Oost. From here you can drive straight into the characteristic Frisian countryside with its vast grasslands and many canals. Get some fresh air while enjoying the peace and quiet. You pass, among other things, the thatched mill the Hempenserpolder, from 1863. At junction 91 three waterways come together: the Schalkediep, the Wijde Hop and the Prinses Margrietkanaal. A beautiful spot!
Pikmeer
The Alde Feanen is a unique nature reserve: in this low peat swamp of almost 4,000 hectares you look out over lakes, ditches, reedlands and shrubs. You will find all stages of a well-developed swamp: from vast, open water to sheltered forests. Further on you drive on car-free roads through the polders. You regularly see a characteristic old farm. After looking out over the Pikmeer, you can admire the medieval St. Martin's Church in Wirdum.
