You take a beautiful varied walking route through the Kollumerwaard and the polder between Munnekezijl and Zoutkamp. It is wonderful to relax in this vast and green landscape!
Lauwersmeer
After a wonderful night's sleep at Camping de Rousant, you can hit the road full of energy. On the right you look out on the Provincial Dike that was constructed between 1874 and 1876 to better regulate the drainage of the Reitdiep. After a while you cross this dike and you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Further on you enter Lauwersmeer National Park. You walk through forest here, but mainly through rough reed and grasslands. What a silence!
De Baak
On the edge of the Kollumerwaard you can climb the De Baak Lookout Tower and enjoy the view over the national park. You then walk through polders that were salt marshes on the Lauwerszee until the construction of the Provincial Dike. Get a breath of fresh air while looking out over the vast land. You pass through a few small villages, such as Munnekezijl. Here you see Rust Roest, a flour mill that dates from 1856.
