Walking through the Sonse Heide

From Son you take a walk that is rich in natural beauty. First you walk through the valley of the Groote Beek. It is wonderfully quiet here for a walk along birch and poplar trees. Then you walk a bit along the Wilhelmina Canal. At junction 60 you walk into the Sonse Heide, a nature reserve that measures almost 300 hectares. This was once an open heathland and shifting sand area. Now you mainly see Scots pines, although there are still original heaths in a few places. In the middle of the area you will pass the Oud Meer, a fen complex. You can walk back to the heart of Son at your leisure. All that walking must have made you hungry.
