Walking through the Sonse Heide

From Son you can take a walk that is rich in natural beauty. First you walk through the valley of the Groote Beek. It is wonderfully quiet here to walk along birches and poplars. Then you walk a bit along the Wilhelmina Canal. At junction 60 you enter the Sonse Heide, a nature reserve measuring almost 300 hectares. This was once an open heath and drifting sand area. Now you mainly see Scots pines, although there are still original heathlands in a few places. In the middle of the area you pass the Oud Meer, a fen complex. You can walk back to the heart of Son at your leisure. All that walking must have made you hungry. That's lucky: you are very welcome in the brasserie of Hotel & Restaurant La Sonnerie.
