Description
The land opposite the farm is Polder Hensbroek, with Polder Ursem adjacent. The nature reserve is a peat polder that was embanked and drained in 1535. The height difference with respect to the ring canal is about three meters. The area that used to consist of agricultural land for cattle breeding, flower growers, bulb growers and gardeners is now a recreation area and accessible to the public.
In 2001, Farmer Dol exchanged the dairy herd for beef cattle. In the early years, the cows were still tied up, now they walk in pairs outside or in the sloped stable and there is free range from outside to inside. In order to build a bond with the cattle, he consciously invests time in this. Every day, the farmer walks through his cattle, whether they are inside or outside. According to Farmer Dol, this is also a clear difference with the dairy cows of the past. A Blonde'd Aquitaine is also'smarter\\\' than a dairy cow; as soon as you walk into the field with a stick or a string in your hands, their heads immediately go up.
