Ferry route along the Waal

This route takes you along the Waal between Druten and Beuningen. You cycle over winding dikes where you regularly have a view of the boats sailing on the Waal and the floodplains, which often consist of swamp forest and untouched grasslands. On the other side you see meadows, orchards and old farms that sometimes still hug the dike. Just after boarding you cycle past the Beatrixmolen, a flour mill from 1848. Just above Druten you cross the Waal with a ferry. Just past junction 79 you drive over Landgoed Heerlijkheid Loenen. The strongest castle in the Betuwe once stood here, now a beautiful villa remains. You cross the river again on a ferry and enjoy a drink and a tasty snack at De Arend.
