Cycling route around Wijchen

This cycling route around Wijchen takes you along the Maas and the Waal. You will find plenty of peace and space in the polders. You will also pass through some old villages and the Hatertse and Overasseltse Vennen nature reserve.

Ravenstein
You first cycle through Bergharen, a nice village where you will see the St. Anne's Church from 1894. You will soon pass through Hernen. Around the St. Judocus Church from 1893, you can still experience the atmosphere of a bygone era thanks to the old farms and the beautiful castle. Further on, from the Maasdijk you have a beautiful view of Ravenstein, the Maas and the Loonse Waard. You will pass the Maasmolen, a flour mill from 1741. The mill served as a replacement for an older mill that was washed away during a dike breach.

Cycling through Nijmegen
The Goffertpark and the various bus stops are within walking distance. The (electric) bicycle can be safely stored (and charged) in the garden.

Dukenburg
You cycle along the Maas for a while and further on you drive through the Hatertse and Overasseltse Vennen. This gently sloping nature reserve consists of a beautiful mix of coniferous forest, fens and river dunes. You cycle along the Maas-Waal Canal, on the left is Dukenburg, a well-known district in Nijmegen. From the winding Waalbandijk you then have a beautiful view of the river, the fruit orchards and the flowery floodplains.
