From Urk through the Noordoostpolder

At Restaurant De Kaap you can enjoy the conviviality and a delicious meal. Before you get on your bike, you can view the Urk Lighthouse. This almost nineteen-meter-high building dates from 1844. You drive through the characteristic harbor of Urk, then pass the monumental Gemaal Vissering from 1942. On the Zuidermeerdijk you can get a breath of fresh air while looking out over the IJsselmeer. Just past junction 14 you pass a striking elevation in the landscape: Oud-Kraggenburg, a former artificial island in the Zuiderzee. The monumental light keeper's house dates from 1877. Further on you drive through the Voorsterbos, constructed in 1944, a beautiful nature reserve where many types of trees grow thanks to the fertile boulder clay soil. Finally, you drive through the Urkerbos. Time for a terrace at Restaurant De Kaap.
