Description

This route starts and ends at holiday home B&B La Bushaye. Other excellent starting points are the Abbey of Val-Dieu (turn left at the Abbey and then pick up the route at point 2), Clermont (point 5) or the parking lot at Fort Battice (point 6/7)

  1. When leaving from Bushaye, turn right downhill and after the bridge turn left onto the main road.
  2. You then follow the valley of the Berwinne to the T-junction where you turn right and then immediately left to Froidthier.
  3. After 50 meters you can turn right onto Ligne 38. The Ligne 38 is a gravel cycle path that follows an old railway route.
  4. At the first intersection of this gravel path with an asphalt road, you leave the route for a while (turn left and turn right at the intersection) to discover picturesque Clermont with its beautiful village square and weighing house.
  5. Then turn right at the intersection after the village square and a little further take the asphalt road diagonally to the right.
  6. As soon as you have left the built-up area, you can turn left again onto Ligne 38 and cycle past Thimister (bicycle bridge over the road) to Fort Battice. This is a beautiful fort complex from the interwar period that was supposed to protect Liège. Unfortunately, the construction was not resistant to the improved ammunition violence of the Nazis.
  7. Continue on the Ligne 38 past Battice's backyards until you reach a major road with a garage with old Porsches, keep right there (small road that passes the Sustainable Energy Building on the right).
  8. At the end of the small road, turn right down through Charneux.
  9. After the monastery of Notre Dame des Fawes, the route ascends again.
  10. At the top of the climb, turn left at Wadeleux and then keep diagonally right.
  11. Continue on this road and descend through a few hairpin bends to Val Dieu. There you can see the impressive abbey and the mill. There are terraces with food and drinks at both the mill and the abbey of Val-Dieu.
  12. After a well-deserved Val-Dieu Tripel, you only have to tackle the last 500 meters back to La Bushaye.
