Tour of Waterland and Marken from Volendam

Your route starts at Restaurant Pieterman. On the island of Marken you immediately experience a unique cultural history. Step off to let the atmosphere sink in! Cycling over the dike you look out over the wide polders and the waters of the Markermeer and Kinselmeer. You pass through Durgerdam, a village known for its many centuries-old wooden houses. Waterland is a region between Landsmeer, Volendam and Monnickendam. This low-lying rural area with its expansive peat meadow landscape is so unique that it has been designated a National Landscape. The beautiful village church of Watergang dates from 1642. Further on you pass through the Purmerbos, a special feature in the vast Waterland. Back in Volendam you can enjoy the beautiful buildings, the cosiness and a terrace at the harbor.
