The route starts in Schalkwijk, a ribbon village along the Schalkwijkse Wetering. Here you can see, among other things, the Sint-Michaëlkerk from 1879. In the outlying area you pass a few old farms. You will also see the knight's court town of Vuijlcop, a tower that originally dates from 1300. You walk through the Verdronken Bos, a forest that has been converted into a water storage area. The unpaved path along the canal is a nice walk with a view of grasslands and orchards. You pass several defenses, such as Lunet aan de Snel and Fort Honswijk. From the Lekdijk you have a beautiful view over the river and the floodplains. Finally, you pass the small walking park with garden complex that is located on the site of the former Kasteel Schalkwijk.
