Just below Hilvarenbeek lies the vast De Utrecht. With this route you take a nice walk through the northern part of this wooded estate. That will be a day of enjoying Brabant.
Reclamation
At Hotel-Restaurant Huize Rustoord you can first grab an attractive terrace before you set off. The De Utrecht estate was developed in 1898 as a financial investment by the life insurance company De Utrecht. Just before you enter Torenlaan, you will see a row of six monumental, white-painted service residences on the right of the road. They were intended for the workers who had to develop the land of De Utrecht.
De Flaes
To the left of Torenlaan you can see a remnant of the reclamation period of De Utrecht: the former forester's house with fire tower. You walk along an unpaved path between a row of trees, while looking out over the meadows. A long avenue takes you through the woods, after a while you arrive at De Flaes: a tranquil fen. You walk back through the woods to Huize Rustoord: the former holiday home for employees of De Utrecht.
