In the Achterhoek it is once again quiet cycling. Especially if there are hardly any villages on your route. That's going back again.
Zwiepse Mill
Natuurcamping't Scharvelt is an ideal place to stay to explore the Achterhoek. You drive on low-traffic roads through a bocage landscape of fields, meadows, streams and wooded banks. In Zwiep you will pass the Zwiepse Molen, a thatched flour mill from 1851. It was originally located on the Zwiepse Berg near Barchem, but was moved several times due to the poor wind. It has been at its current location since 1880.
Picturesque Stokkum
Along the way you regularly see an old Saxon farm. Like in Stokkum, a hamlet where you can still find the atmosphere of days gone by. Further on you will pass Kasteel Huis te Diepenheim, the oldest castle in the region. It was built in 1648 by Berent Bentinck. His family coat of arms can be admired on the beautiful castle gate. Towards the end of your route you will pass through the small forest along the Hambroekplas recreation area.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
