Description

Hulst is a beautiful old town in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, ideal to explore by bike. In the outlying area you drive through the Flemish-Dutch border region with its polders, creeks and forests.

Fortdijk
The route starts in Koewacht, one of the border villages in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. In Belgium you drive through a landscape of meadows, fields and roads that are lined with trees. You will also pass the Grote Kreek. In Zuiddorpe you can take a look at the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-ten-Hemelopnemingskerk, the building dates from 1885. On the Fortdijk you pass some former forts that were built by the Spaniards in 1636 to protect the region against State troops.

Stone Forests
Further on, Hulst appears on the horizon, a beautiful town that is still surrounded by ramparts. You enter Hulst through the Double Gate from 1771. You will find a special atmosphere here, Hulst is also called the most Flemish city in the Netherlands.
