Welcome then, welcome now!
Welcome to the area of the Free Colonies
of Benevolence. A unique piece of Dutch
history with a rich history located in Drenthe,
Friesland and Overijssel. Surrounded by three beautiful
National Parks: the Drents-Friese Wold, Weerribben
Wieden and the Dwingelerveld. A wonderful base
for your bike ride.
'Path of the Paupers\\\'
This 49 km long route takes you to Willemsoord
(Colony III), the Weerribben and Blokzijl. You follow
as it were, the path that the paupers took for 200 years
have suffered. From the west, via the
Zuiderzee, they arrived in Blokzijl and then
to continue to Steenwijk by tow barge.
They then traveled on foot and on carts to
Willemsoord, Wilhelminaoord and Frederiksoord.
Most with nothing in their pockets. You can go
enjoy a relaxing rest at various rest points.
Weerribben-Wieden National Park
This park is the largest peat bog in the country
Western Europe. The watery nature reserve in the
Kop van Overijssel is an oasis of space and tranquility.
De Wieden is a cultural landscape. The landscape
is formed by peat extraction; from the fifteenth
century, peat was dredged here. You will find puddles here
and ditches, vast reedlands, meadows full of meadows
flowers and dense swamp forests.

the Jonen ferry connects your cycling tour from Giethoorn
to Blokzijl and vice versa. A wonderful experience
