The Weerribben is one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. With this walking route you can discover the beauty of this nature reserve yourself.
Waterways
From Hotel Café Restaurant Het Rietershuijs you walk out of Kalenberg via the Kalenbergergracht. This watercourse formed the traffic artery of the Weerribben for centuries. Until the 1950s, Kalenberg was only accessible via this canal. The path leads you further along the Heer van Diezenvaart, another traffic artery. However pristine the Weerribben may look, the landscape has been shaped in part by diligent peat cutters.
Slow down
Just outside the hamlet of the Netherlands, the route bends and you walk through the reed lands, rugged grasslands and along the waters and swamp forests for which the Weerribben is known. This nature reserve is not only one of the most beautiful, but also the quietest in the Netherlands. Ideal to relax for a day. You walk back to Kalenberg along the Wetering and Heuvengracht. Time for a terrace at Hotel Café Restaurant Het Rietershuijs.
