Schoonhoven is a beautiful old town with a rich cultural history. Put on your walking shoes and come and experience the charm of the Silver City yourself.
Silver City
First you walk through the historical part of Schoonhoven. You will see beautiful monumental buildings here, such as the Waag from 1617. The Grote or Bartholomeüskerk originally dates from the thirteenth century, but has been renovated over the years. The former synagogue houses Schoonhovens Edelambachtshuys, a museum about silversmithing.
Ferry gate
At the Lek you walk past the Veerpoort, the only one of the original five city gates that remains. You have a beautiful view of the river here, a nice place to grab a bench. Further on you come past a plastered church from 1838, the tower dates back to 1672. The Vinkenpad takes you a bit through the polders. You look out over vast grasslands and reed beds along the water.
