Schoonhoven is a beautiful old town with a rich cultural history. Put on your walking shoes and come and experience the charm of the Silver City for yourself.
Silver City
First you walk through the historic part of Schoonhoven. You can see beautiful monumental buildings here, such as the Waag from 1617. The Grote or Bartholomeüskerk originally dates from the thirteenth century, but has been renovated over time. Schoonhovens Edelambachtshuys, a museum about silversmithing, is located in the former synagogue.
Ferry port
On the Lek you walk past the Veerpoort, the only one of the original five city gates that has survived. You have a beautiful view over the river, a nice place to grab a bench. Further on you will pass a plastered church from 1838, the tower dates from 1672. The Vinkenpad takes you through the polders for a bit. You look out over vast grasslands and reed beds along the water.
