Walking through forest and heathland near Mierlo

South of Mierlo in Brabant, you can take a varied walk through woods and heathland. Put on your sturdy shoes and enjoy the Strabrechtse Heide and Molenheide.

Kempen Heath Sheep
At De Strabrechtse Hoeve you can first have a drink and a snack before you walk into the Strabrechtse Heide. You first walk through the woods here, before you reach the vast heathland to which this nature reserve owes its fame. What beautiful views you have here! The inhabited world seems very far away for a while, especially when you see the shepherd walking with his herd of Kempense Heideschapen.

Molenheide
You pass a few fens before you enter Molenheide. It is wonderfully quiet walking here, the winding paths and lanes lead you through forest and some heath remnants. Just before the Second World War, the heath was reclaimed as a job creation project. Coniferous trees were planted for mining in South Limburg, so that you now walk between Scots pine, Corsican pine and spruce. At De Strabrechtse Hoeve you can enjoy a cozy terrace afterwards.
