Walking through forest and heath near Mierlo

South of Mierlo in Brabant you can take a varied walk through forest and heath. Put on your sturdy shoes and enjoy the Strabrechtse Heide and Molenheide.

Kempen Heath Sheep
At De Strabrechtse Hoeve you can first have a drink and a snack before walking into the Strabrechtse Heide. You first walk through the woods here, before you arrive at the vast heathland to which this nature reserve owes its fame. What beautiful views you have here! Civilization seems very far away, especially when you see the shepherd walking with his flock of Kempense Heath sheep.

Molenheide
You pass a few fens before you walk onto Molenheide. It is wonderfully peaceful to walk here, the winding paths and lanes lead you through forest and some remnants of heathland. Just before the Second World War, the heath was developed as a job creation project. Coniferous trees were planted for mining in South Limburg, so that you now walk between Scots pine, Corsican pine and spruce. At De Strabrechtse Hoeve you can enjoy a cozy terrace afterwards.
