Family walk around the Niers

Going out with the family through a beautiful environment? Then come and walk in the Niersdal between Gennep and Ottersum in Limburg. You can also walk through the Looierheide.

Looierheide
From Heldro IJssalon you can walk straight into the outside area. Just after junction 63 you cross the Niers, a river that originates in Germany and is about 110 kilometers long. Only the last 11 kilometers it flows through the Netherlands. From the bridge you have a nice view of the area. In the distance you can see the Maria Roepaan monastery. A little later you walk a short distance through the forest of the Looierheide nature reserve.

Niersdal
Just before junction 67 you will pass a nice seat. There is an information board, so you can learn more about the Niersdal. You walk a bit on the dike, after which you cross the Nier. The footpath then takes you through the Niersdal. You will find grasslands, wet bushes, willows and poplars here. A wonderfully quiet place.
