Provided by: Groots Genieten
In the northwest of Friesland you can cycle wonderfully peacefully. You will find plenty of peace, space and small old villages with beautiful churches.
Church tower From the village of Tzummarum you cycle through the polders to Firdgum. On the horizon you can already see the striking thirteenth-century church tower. The church was demolished in 1794 because it was dilapidated. Then you cycle to the Zeedijk. It is wonderful to cycle here in the shelter of the dike, while you look out over the meadows and many ditches. A little before junction 60 you can climb the dike to look out over the Wadden Sea.
The octagonal church of Oude Bildtzijl enjoys a protected village view, time seems to have stood still here. You pass Hoeve Noordveld, a special place to stay. On the Oude Bildtdijk you see several monumental farms. In Sint-Annaparochie you pass the octagonal Van Harenskerk from 1683. In Berlikum there is an octagonal domed church, this dates from 1779. Just outside Menaldum you drive past the Kievit, a thatched polder mill from 1802.
