Walking through Berkendonk and the Zandbos

Between Helmond and Deurne you can take a varied walk through the fields and forests. This route takes you through Berkendonk and the Zandbos. You will also pass through some attractive old hamlets.

Great Bridges
At Palingpaviljoen Rijpelaal you can enjoy a cozy terrace before you set off. You cross the Bakelse Aa, after which you walk through some hamlets. In the surrounding countryside you can walk on car-free roads past fields, grasslands and characteristic farms. It won't take long before you get into the right rhythm in this beautiful landscape. In Groot Bruggen it is time for a break at Het Boerenhuis.

Berkendonk
Then you walk through the Zandbos. Until the second half of the nineteenth century, this nature reserve consisted of heathland and drifting sands. Now you walk between Scots pines and American oaks. Take a walk to the Buntven to enjoy the silence and an idyllic view. Further on you pass through Berkendonk, a varied nature and recreation area with extensive meadows, forest and a large lake with reed borders. What a surprisingly nice walking area!
