Salland was silent

The Overijsselse Vechtdal
The Vecht winds its way through a landscape in which bygone times have been preserved. Along the river you look out on pristine forests, hedgerows and meadows. Dalfsen is also located on the water, a pleasant village where you can still see many old farms and stately buildings. This region also has several historic country estates, such as the Leemcule. This estate dates from the fifteenth century, although the original castle was demolished in the early nineteenth century. Instead, the building has been converted into a chic residential home.

Salland
Outside the Vechtdal you drive through the Salland countryside. In this scenic landscape you will see many authentic farms where farming is still taking place. You have beautiful views over the fields or meadows that are separated by ditches and canals.

Monumental mills
In addition to monumental farms, there are also two historic mills on the route. In Dalfsen you cycle past the Westermolen, a thatched corn mill from 1818. In the countryside near Nieuwleusen, a mining village that originated in the seventeenth century, is Molen Massier. In 2006, only the hull of this 1861 flour mill remained. In the years that followed, the mill was restored. Mill Massier is the only surviving example of the original six mills that stood in Nieuwleusen.
