On foot through the fortified town of Gorinchem

Put on your walking shoes for a beautiful route full of history: you will visit Gorinchem. In the countryside it is beautiful to walk along the Waal.

City walls Gorinchem
Around Gorinchem, the sixteenth-century city walls have been well preserved. The path runs largely over these walls. From the footpath you can see many boats floating on the water, and you also have a beautiful view over the Waal. From the bridge you have a beautiful view of the Liniehaven. Further on you can see the Dalempoort from 1597. You also pass De Hoop, a corn mill from 1764.

Border post
On the dike you see a boundary post from 1834 on the right. On the left you pass the reformed church, a beautiful building from 1801. It is nice and quiet to walk here, while you look out over the river. In the flowery floodplains herds of sheep are grazing. After a walk around the village of Dalem, you walk along the ramparts around the old center of Gorinchem. At Restaurant Metropole you can enjoy something delicious afterwards.
