Cycling through Gorinchem and surroundings

Gorinchem is a beautiful old fortified town. Get on your bike to enjoy the cultural history here. In the countryside you drive through nice hamlets where time seems to pass a little slower.

Fortified city
At Restaurant Metropole you can first enjoy a drink and something tasty before getting on your bike. In the fortified city of Gorinchem you will find many beautiful monuments in the city center, such as the Grote Kerk and the Dalempoort from 1597. The Lingehaven is also a sight to see. From the Waaldijk you have a beautiful view of the river and the natural floodplains. Fort Vuren from 1844 is a nice sight. Further on you pass through the Lingebos recreational area.

Mills
Arkel is wedged between the Linge and the Merwede Canal. Here you will see, among other things, the Jan van Arkel, a flour mill from 1852. Further on you will pass through some picturesque hamlets, such as Overslingeland and Pinkenveer. Thanks to the well-preserved centuries-old farms, you will find the atmosphere of a bygone era here. In the vast polder you will pass the Scheiwijkse Molen, a polder mill, built in 1638. In Schelluinen you pass the charming village church.
