Cycling through Gorinchem and surroundings

Gorinchem is a beautiful old fortified town. Get on your bike to enjoy the cultural history here. In the countryside you drive through nice hamlets where time seems to run a little slower.

Fortified city
At Restaurant Metropole you can enjoy a drink and something tasty before you get on your bike. In the fortified town of Gorinchem you will find many beautiful monuments in the city center, such as the Grote Kerk and the Dalempoort from 1597. The Lingehaven is also an attraction. From the Waaldijk you have a beautiful view over the river and the natural floodplains. Fort Vuren from 1844 is a nice sight. Further on you will pass through the Lingebos recreation area.

Mills
Arkel is sandwiched between the Linge and the Merwede Canal. Here you can see the Jan van Arkel, a corn mill from 1852. Further on you pass through some picturesque hamlets, such as Overslingeland and Pinkenveer. Thanks to the well-preserved centuries-old farms, you will find the atmosphere of a bygone era here. In the wide polder you will pass the Scheiwijkse Molen, a polder mill, built in 1638. In Schelluinen you pass the charming village church.
