Cycling through Gorinchem and surroundings

Gorinchem is a beautiful old fortified town. Get on your bike to enjoy the cultural history here. In the countryside you ride through nice hamlets where time seems to pass a little slower.

Fortified town
At Restaurant Metropole you can first enjoy a drink and a snack before getting on your bike. In the fortified city of Gorinchem you will find many beautiful monuments in the city centre, such as the Grote Kerk and the Dalempoort from 1597. The Lingehaven is also a sight to behold. From the Waaldijk you have a beautiful view over the river and the natural floodplains. Fort Vuren from 1844 is a nice sight to behold. Further on you will come through the Lingebos recreation area.

Mills
Arkel is wedged between the Linge and the Merwede Canal. Here you will see the Jan van Arkel, a corn mill from 1852. Further on you will pass through several picturesque hamlets, such as Overslingeland and Pinkenveer. Thanks to the well-preserved centuries-old farms, you will encounter the atmosphere of times gone by. In the vast polder you will pass the Scheiwijkse Molen, a polder mill, built in 1638. In Schelluinen you will pass the charming village church.
